Jimela

As humans, we try to separate ourselves from the “savage” and “immoral” animal kingdom. We consider ourselves to have shed our primal nature, replacing it with civility and consciousness, when in actuality, we have only slightly masked our animalistic in- stincts. Clubbing and partying are some of the spaces in which we give in to our primitive motivations. Clubbing is a human mating ritual, where men prune and parade themselves for the attention and affection of a woman, flashing their shiny objects like a Magpie and taking up space on the dance floor like a Topi. Inspired by these ideas, the authentic nature of my partner for this project, and their love of clubbing, I created Jimela. When will people realize they are just as stupid as the animals they think they’re so much better than.
